Wind is the air in motion, and air is a matter which occupies space and have mass also, but wind is an effect or motion in the matter so it is a phenomenon which could not be a matter but the air particles moving in the wind is a matter.
Air is a mixture and not a compound because of the following reasons: Air can be separated into its constituents such as oxygen, nitrogen etc. by fractional distillation of liquid air. Air shows the properties of all the gases present in it.
Air is mostly gas
It's a mixture of different gases. The air in Earth's atmosphere is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Air also has small amounts of other gases, too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen.
Tell students that gases are made of molecules but that the molecules are much further apart than the molecules in liquids or solids. Since the molecules of a gas have mass and take up space, gas is matter.
Oxygen is a colourless, odourless, tasteless gas essential to living organisms, being taken up by animals, which convert it to carbon dioxide; plants, in turn, utilize carbon dioxide as a source of carbon and return the oxygen to the atmosphere.
If your windows got really cold: about -200 Celsius or -330 Fahrenheit, then the nitrogen in the air would liquefy on your window, and at about -220 Celsius or -365 Fahrenheit, it would freeze solid, giving you a layer of solid nitrogen. The other ingredients of air freeze at intermediate temperatures.
Under certain circumstances, gas can transform directly into a solid. This process is called deposition. Water vapor to ice - Water vapor transforms directly into ice without becoming a liquid, a process that often occurs on windows during the winter months.
Air is not the only gas. Others are hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, and many more. Definite means something does not change. The most important liquid to living things is water.
Matter is something that has volume (takes up space) and has mass (*can be weighed). Air does take up space, even if we can't see it, and air has weight, even if we can't feel it -- and both of these properties can be observed and measured.
Gases. Gases are difficult to relate to because they are often invisible, but found all around. You can feel them when, for example, the wind blows.
In contrast, matter is made up of particles that do have mass. Sound is a little different in that it is the propagation of a pressure wave through a medium of particles. Since it is a wave, it is not considered a form of matter.
Examples of Gases
In addition to solids and liquids, gases are also a physical state in which matter can occur. All gases have weight. Unlike solids and liquids, gases will occupy the entire container that encloses them.
