What Is Cool Science?

Cool Science is all about making science cool for kids, just like music, art or sports. Our volunteers do this by bringing a wide variety of fun and engaging hands-on science activities year-round to schools, libraries and other public venues throughout eastern Colorado.

What is the science behind instant ice?

Instant ice is a liquid that has been cooled below the freezing point but still holds it's liquid form. When you pour the water over ice cubes, the process of nucleation causes ice to form instantly!

How do you instantly freeze water experiment?

Process

  1. Put water bottles in the freezer for two hours.
  2. Remove the water bottles from the freezer before they freeze.
  3. Place a ceramic bowl upside down on a flat surface (like a tray) to catch the water overage.
  4. Place an ice cube on top of the pouring surface.
  5. Then SLOWLY pour while instant ice forms!

How do you make a tornado in a water bottle?

Instructions:

  1. Fill your container about ¾ full with clean water.
  2. Add a squirt of dish soap, as well as your glitter or food coloring, if desired.
  3. Seal the container tightly.
  4. Move the bottle rapidly in a circular motion. After a few seconds, you should see the water begin swirling. Stop, and watch your tornado!

What chemical freezes things instantly?

In physics and chemistry, flash freezing is the process whereby objects are frozen in just a few hours by subjecting them to cryogenic temperatures, or through direct contact with liquid nitrogen at −196 °C (−320.8 °F). It is commonly used in the food industry.

What is a simple experiment?

A simple experiment is one researchers often use to determine if changes in one variable might lead to changes in another variable—in other words, to establish cause-and-effect.

What is water science?

Water Science is the study of water and its interaction with solids, liquids, gases, and organisms in various Earth systems. Our water science program emphasizes the fundamentals of all areas of science as they apply to water, with special emphasis on surface water and groundwater systems.

What are cool science projects?

We've rounded up a big collection of easy science experiments that anybody can try, and kids are going to love them!

  • Amplify a smartphone.
  • Send a teabag flying.
  • Watch the water rise.
  • Set raisins dancing.
  • Race a balloon-powered car.
  • Crystallize your own rock candy.
  • Repel glitter with dish soap.
  • Blow the biggest bubbles you can.

How do u make instant ice?

You can get a similar effect by smashing a still-closed bottle of super-cooled water onto a hard surface. This triggers the crystals to form, instantly hardening the ice inside the bottle. The weather term for this process is called a “snap freeze.”

How much gravity is there in space?

By contrast, greater distance leads to rapidly diminishing gravitationalpull. But where the space station roams, some 220miles (354 km) up, the force of gravity is still about 90 percent what it ishere on the surface. Earth's gravity is still pulling down on astronautsin orbit.

How do you use slush powder?

Theatrically pour the water from the second cup into the cup containing the powder and then use the correct magic word. Once the water mixes with the power it will form a gel that will stay in the cup when the cup is turned upside down. Turn the cup upside down. Announce that the water has disappeared.

How does the upside down water trick work?

When you turn the cup upside down, the pressure of the air inside the cup and the air pressure outside the cup is equal. So, you might notice that a little water leaks out between the paper and the cup. The leak happens because the force of gravity pulls down on the water.

What is a cool science fact?

There are 206 bones in the adult human body and 300 in a child's developing body. Fleas can jump 130 times higher than their height. In human terms, that is equivalent to a 6-foot person jumping 780 feet into the air.
